Congressman Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) visited the Monarch Cement Company kilns and manufacturing plant on last Monday (July 28).  Hosting the tour were Walter Wulf, President; Rick Rush, Vice President; Joan Perez, Vice President – Sales and Harvey Buckley, Vice President – Operations along with Woody Moses, Managing Director, KAPA-KRMCA.

After a short video featuring the company’s history and operations Moran toured the facilities including the kilns, control room and tire processing facility.  As a member of the House Transportation Committee Jerry is very interested in how congressional policy making impacts local manufacturers such as Monarch.  Several key issues were discussed such as CO2, transportation policy and other regulatory matters.  The tour was organized by Woody Moses in response to Moran’s request, earlier this year, to learn more about the cement making process and the impact the cement industry has in Kansas.  “We were very pleased and honored to have Congressman Moran make the time to learn about our business” said Walter Wulf, President.

The Monarch Cement Company, founded in 1908, currently employs approximately 550 people.  The Kansas Cement Council, Kansas Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Kansas Aggregate Producers Association are related trade associations representing the interests of over 250 members throughout the state of Kansas
