Card Check, the so-called Employee Free Choice Act
We are pleased to inform you that NRMCA has just launched its new anti-Card Check website.
Card Check, the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, is legislation that would take away a worker’s right to a federally supervised private ballot election when deciding whether or not to join a union. It would replace the private ballot with a biased and inferior Card Check process that allows a union to organize if a majority of workers simply sign a card. Under this system, workers’ votes are made public to their employer, the union organizers and co-workers.
Card Check passed the U.S. House of Representatives in March 2007 with a 241 to 185 majority and narrowly missed passage in the U.S. Senate in June 2007. It is critical that the ready mixed concrete industry is educated on this issue and prepared to act.
Please use this website as a tool to help the industry preserve workers’ rights and the democratic principles of a private ballot election. This can be accomplished by passing this information along to your members through your website, newsletter, and/or email. It is critical that our industry’s voice is heard loudly and broadly! The website can be found at http://www.nrmca.org/ccmap/cardcheck.asp.
